Talking Social Network Interop @ GSP East from Brian Oberkirch on Vimeo.

Today Chris Messina, David Recordon & I took a break while at Graphing Social Patterns, East and chatted about one of our favorite topics:  what to do about all this social data we are generating like crazy.

  1. We need an open standard, actually, a standard of standards, that encompasses all of this: OBAMLA.

    Open
    Broadcasting of
    Activities and
    Messages with
    Location
    Awareness

    OpenID, OAuth, Atom, XMPP. Boom.

  2. @Luigi: Kind of like DiSo? ;)

Also check out my other post today on activity streams:

  3. Great discussion except it doesn’t consider privacy concerns. It doesn’t seem like there is a community consensus around standard privacy controls which is understandable because it is a very complex topic - IMO privacy is a personal and individual thing and is also dependent on the context of usage, see my post here for more details

Does it make sense to have a more focused effort to define open and standard privacy controls much like OAuth, OpenID, etc?
